Tonya (she/her/elle) left her home province of Québec and her life as a teacher to become an Ontario Registered Midwife in 2004. Over the last 20 plus years, she has had the privilege and joy of working (in English and French) with so many clients and their families in Brantford, Hamilton and the surrounding areas. In 2015, Tonya initially joined MMC as one of the founding partners while also working as a Faculty member of the Midwifery Education Program (at McMaster University and (formerly) Laurentian University). Although Tonya has taken a few “detours” as she followed her interests in global health to complete her Master’s and Doctoral degrees, she keeps coming back to midwifery! Tonya is passionate about midwifery care that is person-centred, provides informed choice, offers choice of birth place, develops trusting relationships and empowers the birthing person.
Tonya’s life outside of midwifery is full of fun and adventure with her partner, three grown children, whole family and many friends. This inevitably involves good food, crazy cycling trips, running like a newbie, travelling without an itinerary, discovering new music, attending arts events, camping in winter and dancing with heart and soul.
We are pleased to welcome Tonya back to MMC in the Fall of 2026 to work with us during a busy season!
